| Martin Brand KEEPING THE HEIGHT A toy model helicopter is trying to hold altitude and position in order to be captured on video camera as steady as possible. Similar to the stone of Sisyphus the small aircraft continuously drops and then reattempts to fly. A question which deals with this series of attempts associatively, is one – how to “stay on top”. Nowadays, this question is basic for artists in order to evaluate the relevance of their doings and ultimately develop a unique artistic position. The approx. 7-minute video consists of the original sound and is presented on a monitor or a projection as a DVD-Loop in the exhibition room. Ein Spielzeug-Modellhubschrauber versucht, Flughöhe und Position zu halten, um möglichst ruhig im Bild der Videokamera zu stehen. Dem Stein des Sisyphos gleich stürzt das kleine Fluggerät immer wieder ab und setzt dann zu einem neuen Versuch an. Eine der Fragestellungen, die diese Versuchsanordnung assoziativ behandelt, ist jene, wie man auf der Höhe seiner Zeit bleibt. Diese Frage ist heute für Künstler grundlegend, um die Relevanz des eigenen Tuns einschätzen zu können und um letztlich auch eine eigene künstlerische Position entwickeln zu können. Das etwa 7 Minuten lange Video beinhaltet den Originalton und wird im Ausstellungsraum auf einem Monitor oder einer Projektion als DVD-Loop präsentiert. © 2003 Martin Brand |
